Tyde House Books is interested in publishing memoirs.

Do not send unsolicited manuscripts. We are not responsible for such materials. See below for procedures to follow regarding submissions.

Tyde House Books specializes in being a publisher that is only one step removed from author self-publication. To keep things simple, we offer only a turnkey solution: complete publication services to carry a manuscript from raw text to completed, printed book that is available through distribution channels.

We are interested in books that reflect the author's special interests or personal experiences -- something about which the author is passionate and about which the author has significant experience.

We don't provide advances. We prefer to work with completed or nearly completed manuscripts, but it is not necessary that the manuscript has been edited or proofread -- we can help with that.

If we believe that your submission fits our publication criteria, we will offer to you terms by which we can step into your shoes as a self-publisher: this means that we will produce your book and place it into distribution channels on your behalf. You will retain the copyright and receive the proceeds from sales of your book under contract relationships with parties in the distribution channels that we select.

We will quote a fee schedule for our services, covering the steps that remain to completion. In addition, you will be obliged to pay the out-of-pocket costs for the production of your book, including printing. We will require a written agreement which will allow you to discontinue at any time without penalty (but of course we must be paid for work completed and costs incurred before we receive the notice).

The statements above are not contract terms and no publishing agreement can be made based on the wording of this web page. We will not undertake to be your publisher unless we contract with you on the terms of a written and signed agreement.

Submission Requirements

Your act of submitting a manuscript to Tyde House books constitutes acceptance of the following terms (to the end of the page) which pertain only to the way in which your manuscript (not your copyright) will be handled by Tyde House Books:

You begin by requesting a submission authorization code from Tyde House Books, which you may do by mail or by email. Manuscripts submitted by any means without being accompanied by a submission authorization code WILL NOT BE ACKNOWLEDGED AND WILL BE DISCARDED. Once you do receive the authorization, you may submit the manuscript by mail or as an email attachment.

By submitting your manuscript on paper or other media, you transfer ownership to Tyde House Books of that media only (not of the content, which is your manuscript, or of any supporting materials such as pictures), and you authorize us to make and retain electronic copies (including backups) of your submission on our computers for our own use: these requirements are made to assure that Tyde House Books has no responsibility to return the manuscript and need not search its computer storage to delete working copies. DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY: loss of the manuscript is at your risk, not ours.

Review of your manuscript is at our option -- we will not be obliged to review it; this is necessary because we have workloads, deadlines and interests that may cause us to believe that review of your manuscript would be a distraction or burden. Nonetheless, we are in the business of publishing and we do hope that you submit your manuscript so that we have the opportunity to review it.

A mailed manuscript will only be returned at our option and only if you enclose with it an addressed and postage prepaid envelope suitable for its return by mail -- otherwise it may be discarded (even if we issued an authorization number for the submission). Mark your authorization number at the lower left-hand corner of the envelope. If we do return your manuscript (probably using your pre-addressed postpaid envelope) it is a courtesy to you and not a duty of ours. DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY.
Email attachment manuscripts will only be reviewed if they can be loaded into a current version of Microsoft Word (even if we issued an authorization number for the submission). Put your authorization number in the Subject field of the email. A manuscript submitted as an email attachment WILL NOT BE RETURNED. DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY.

We will acknowledge submissions by email, if available, so be sure to provide your email address if you have one. If you don't get an acknowledgement by email within two weeks or by mail within three weeks, assume that we didn't get the manuscript. Of course, if you don't supply a good address for acknowledgement, you won't get one.
